I had to pick this book up, bloggers had RAVED about it and I was expecting big things from it. I’m delighted to say *gosh I should like I’m doing a speech for giving an award 🤣* that Thirteen smashed expectations and has made me a very happy girl!
So I’ve never read this series before but I checked with others and they said this works great as a standalone, it does. It was blimming marvellous and I now can’t wait to buy all the others!
The reason I wanted to read this book so much was the fact it’s a legal thriller. You all know I’m a massive fan of Grisham and he’s been going a bit different with his latest books, so I was craving a trial plot. And this book hit the spot. Not only is it a legal thriller dream, it’s also perfectly balanced with crime to create the ultimate legal crime extraordinaire!
Eddie Flynn is on the Robert Solomon case – Bobby stands trial for the murder of his wife and head of security. As a famous movie star, the press is following the case very closely, as our his movie studio execs.
He’s been set up, he’s innocent but it’s a hard case to argue, his DNA is ALL OVER the crime scene.
It’s already a juicy plot but it’s even more complex. We’re also following Joshua Kane. Who’s a very canny and dangerous character. He’s on the jury and causing mischief, a guilty verdict is what he’s after and nothing will get in his way.
I Loved Cavanagh’s smart and sassy writing style, it just made this plot ooze off the pages and I was sizzling with excitement the entire way through.
The pace was perfect, the to-ing and fro-ing between Flynn and Kane kept the pages turning quicker and quicker.
For me, this book stands out from the crowd because the plot is so skilfully brilliant, that your lips will turn to a grin without realising.
Without a doubt, this book is a masterpiece and Cavanagh has knocked away all his competition in the legal thriller genre – even Grisham.
If you’ve not read this yet and you like a good legal case, I’d advise you check this out, maybe a Christmas present for yourself!!
Thirteen is out now in paperback and eBook by Orion.

I think I read somewhere that this is part of a series? Can it be read as a standalone?
