Bridget finds herself trapped in a basement, held captive by a guy that she seems to be in love with but she doesn’t know why or even who he is.
A couple of an adopted baby are brutally murdered.
It’s all connected and Imogen is the key.
I think after reading so many psychological thrillers, I struggled to get into the flow of this book, being a criminal thriller it lacked the cleverness to outwit the reader and suspense that you get with the psychological genre.
It was graphic and gory when it came to the murders which added brutality to the scenes.
The police team are well thought out with each having unique personalities that shined in solving this case; and I particularly liked the direct link that DS Grey had to the case.
Diamond has a sophisticated writing style which brought to life the thoughts of the main characters and linking back to a past case made the whole plot more complex.
A sneaky dirty cop mystery always builds up intrigue – ‘who could it be’ thoughts were running though my head for at least half the book. Plus guessing who was holding Bridget captive was an ongoing pursuit as you’re introduced to more dirty characters.
I feel this review seems a little underwhelming but I guess I just wasn’t blown away by the story. It’s a good book but it hasn’t left a lasting impression and I wasn’t grabbing it every time I had a spare minute.
